    Origins: Adventist Roots (1835–1902)

The Adventist world from which the Bible Student movement grew. It begins with William Miller and the Millerite papers (Signs of the Times, The Midnight Cry, The Day-Star) and their critics, which ended in the "Great Disappointment" of 1844. It continues with George Storrs, who taught that the soul is not immortal and published The Bible Examiner (many issues of 1843–1876 are here, including the 1876 issue with C. T. Russell's first article on prophetic chronology). Then come N. H. Barbour's Midnight Cry (1871) and Herald of the Morning (1874–1880), which set out the 1874/1914 chronology Russell adopted and co-published until 1879, and the books of J. H. Paton, who worked with Russell until 1881.

These works were not published by the Watch Tower Society; see the Related Works section page for why they are in this library.
